Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Malami made this known on Wednesday through a public statement addressed to the people of Kebbi State and Nigerians at large. He explained that the decision came after what he described as “wide consultations and deep personal reflection.”
He stressed that his move was not out of personal ambition or grudges, but a response to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic situation. Malami said the country is bleeding and accused the current administration of prioritising politics over citizens’ safety.
According to him, banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings have become widespread, especially in the North, while the cost of living keeps rising. He noted that food prices have tripled, many families can no longer afford meals, and young people are losing hope as jobs disappear.
Malami didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government. He accused the administration of sidelining qualified individuals and replacing merit with political loyalty in key appointments. He claimed governance has been abandoned, with policies now driven by political interests rather than national development.
He explained that the ADC offers a platform rooted in justice, inclusion, and national renewal. Malami expressed hope that with collective support, the party could redirect the nation toward progress.
He assured the people of Kebbi that his political decisions remain guided by their welfare and promised to use his new political base to represent their interests more effectively.
