Pregnant Recruits Dismissed from Amotekun Training Over Health Concerns

Ogun Amotekun discharges six pregnant women from training camp to protect their health and unborn babies, urges them to reapply after delivery.

The Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has discharged six female recruits from its training programme after discovering they were already pregnant before joining the camp. The decision followed a routine pregnancy test conducted on about 125 female trainees.

State Corps Commander, retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, confirmed the development and explained that the dismissal was a preventive measure to safeguard the well-being of both the expectant mothers and their unborn children. He said the agency prioritises professionalism, health, and discipline, adding that the physical intensity of the three-week training could pose serious risks such as miscarriage or birth defects.

Adedigba emphasized that although the dismissal was difficult, it was necessary to ensure safety during the physically demanding training. He praised the dedication of the affected recruits and commended their willingness to serve. He encouraged them to return and rejoin the corps in the next recruitment phase once they have safely delivered their babies.

The agency reassured the public of its commitment to safety and health during all stages of training, stating that no recruit would be exposed to avoidable risks.
