Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82 while receiving treatment at a hospital in London. His passing on Sunday sparked an outpouring of emotion, particularly from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Sokoto State, which described him as a leader whose name will remain part of Nigeria’s story for generations.
Led by Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, also known as Jungle, the NLC in Sokoto expressed deep sorrow over Buhari’s death. In a statement, the union described him as a principled and disciplined figure who remained committed to the values of public service, accountability, and national development.
The NLC noted that Buhari’s leadership in fighting corruption and restoring confidence in government institutions was widely respected across Africa. The union said his approach to governance reflected a strong belief in service and honesty.
On behalf of its members, the Sokoto chapter of the NLC offered condolences to Buhari’s family, the people and government of Sokoto State, and all Nigerians mourning the loss. The union also prayed for strength and healing for the nation and for Buhari’s soul to find peace.
Comrade Jungle added that Buhari’s dedication to duty should serve as a source of inspiration, reminding Nigerians of the impact one person’s values can have on an entire country.
