Ebonyi Police Arrest 939 Crime Suspects in Six Months

Ebonyi Police arrest 939 suspects including 52 women for crimes like murder, robbery, and drug trafficking between January and June 2025.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 939 individuals for various offences committed across the state within the first half of 2025. According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, the arrests were made during regular patrols and operations carried out in all 13 local government areas of the state.

 

Speaking during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abakaliki, Ukandu revealed that 887 of the suspects are men, while 52 are women, with no minors involved. He said the offences ranged from petty crimes to serious violations, including murder, rape, suicide, grievous harm, child theft, cultism, armed robbery, and housebreaking.

 

He further disclosed that many of the arrested individuals have already been charged to court on allegations such as kidnapping, burglary, fraud, theft, arson, illegal possession of firearms, forgery, public disturbance, and drug trafficking.

 

Ukandu expressed appreciation for the continued support from Governor Francis Nwifuru, noting that collaboration with other security agencies has played a vital role in keeping the state safe. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the force but praised the resilience and commitment of police personnel in maintaining law and order.

 

He assured the public that the police would not relent in their efforts to reduce crime and safeguard lives and property throughout Ebonyi State.
