Lagos Sets August 1 for New Truck Call-Up System on Lekki-Epe Route

Lagos introduces revised truck call-up system on Lekki-Epe corridor from August 1, slashes fee to N10,000 to ease traffic and prevent Apapa-style gridlock.

The Lagos State Government has announced that a new version of its Electronic Call-Up system for trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor will go live on August 1, 2025. The system aims to curb traffic congestion caused by the growing activities at the Dangote Refinery and Lekki Deep Sea Port.

The decision was made after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Ministry of Transportation at the Dangote Oil Refining Limited headquarters in Ikoyi. The session, led by Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi, brought together key transport unions and logistics operators.

As part of the new agreement, the call-up fee per truck has been reduced from N12,500 to N10,000. Unions including NUPENG, NARTO, and IPMAN supported the move, emphasizing that the new system would help avoid the kind of chronic gridlock that once paralyzed the Apapa port area. They raised concerns over past incidents involving road accidents, delays for schoolchildren, and worsening environmental conditions due to unregulated truck movement.

The state government confirmed that seven dedicated truck parks have been approved within the corridor. These facilities include essential amenities such as paved lots, surveillance cameras, toilets, and rest areas for drivers. It was clarified that the fees collected will be used strictly for managing logistics, ensuring enforcement, and maintaining the required technology—not for government revenue.

The communiqué outlined several key resolutions: all trucks must be registered and onboarded before August 1; awareness campaigns will be conducted ahead of enforcement; only trucks with legitimate business in the Lekki Free Zone will be permitted; and enforcement operations will commence on the launch date with backing from all stakeholder unions.

Stakeholders expressed full support for the initiative, vowing to collaborate closely to ensure its success. Osiyemi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving traffic flow in the region through cooperation and innovation, aiming to benefit both the business community and residents across the Lekki-Epe axis.
