The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 11 new cases of Lassa fever in Ondo, Edo, and Benue states, raising fresh concerns over the spread of the viral disease. According to the latest situation report released for Week 28 (covering July 7 to 13, 2025), a total of 811 cases have been confirmed this year, with 152 deaths recorded.
The report also revealed that the current Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 18.7%, showing an increase from the 17.3% recorded during the same period in 2024. Most of the confirmed infections—about 89%—were traced to five states: Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi.
The NCDC urged health professionals, journalists, and the general public to utilise the shared data to raise awareness and enhance public health communication around Lassa fever prevention and control.
