Edo By-Election: APC Confident of Near-Certain Win as Deputy Governor Predicts 98 Percent Victory

Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa predicts a 98 percent win for APC in Edo's Ovia by-election, citing strong candidate support and visible development efforts.

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on track to secure at least 98 percent of the votes in the upcoming by-election for the Ovia federal constituency scheduled for August 16.

Idahosa made this bold claim during a campaign stop in Uhen and Isiuwa communities, where he met with party leaders and supporters in Ovia North East Local Government Area. According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor highlighted the popularity of APC’s candidate, Barrister Omosede Igbinedion, and praised Governor Monday Okpebholo’s achievements as key reasons for the expected landslide victory.

He urged party members and residents to show full support by turning out in large numbers on election day to vote for their own. Idahosa emphasized that despite the strong backing the APC enjoys, the party should avoid overconfidence and instead work together to mobilize eligible voters.

The deputy governor expressed optimism that voting would conclude early and results would favor the APC by 1pm on election day. Speaking in Isiuwa, Omosede Igbinedion’s home community, he said there was no need for long speeches because the people already knew who she was and what she stood for. He also pointed out their shared interest in developing the Ovia federal constituency, despite previous political differences.

Omosede Igbinedion thanked Idahosa for leading the campaign personally and outlined her development plans. She promised to upgrade healthcare facilities, complete ongoing electrification projects initiated by Idahosa, and supply farming inputs to rural communities. She urged supporters to remain loyal to the party and resist being swayed by money.

Addressing her recent switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, she said she had no regrets and emphasized the importance of aligning with the federal government to attract development to her constituency. She described the APC as the only political ship that is not only afloat but also thriving, calling it a beautiful yacht open to everyone.
