A youth group in Taraba State has expressed concern over the withdrawal of traditional titles from Alhaji Dr. Saleem Iliyasu Goje, popularly known as Dan Mama. The group warned that the move could discourage young people from taking part in community development.
In a statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim Isa Donga, Chairman of Taraba State Youths Advocate For Good Governance, the association said the decision raised questions about fairness, due process, and respect for traditional institutions. According to the group, Dan Mama had earned his recognition and titles through his personal contributions and commitment to the welfare of his community.
Isa Donga explained that the titles bestowed on him reflected the trust and respect of traditional rulers. He said revoking them without a clear explanation or opportunity for a fair hearing could undermine youth confidence in leadership and community service.
The group issued four demands to the government: provide reasons for the withdrawal, allow Goje to respond through a fair process, reconsider the decision if no wrongdoing is proven, and show stronger support for youth involvement in leadership.
“A democratic government must act on the rule of law, not secrecy. If no credible evidence of wrongdoing is established, we call for the restoration of all traditional titles to Dan Mama and a public apology,” Isa Donga stated.
The association pledged to continue monitoring the case to ensure justice and the protection of youth participation in community development across Taraba State.
