PENGASSAN Insists Strike Continues, Denies Rumoured Court Injunction

PENGASSAN urges oil workers to continue strike, dismissing rumours of a court order. Leadership insists no injunction has been served.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media that a court injunction has been secured to halt its ongoing industrial action. The union described the reports as false, urging its members nationwide to remain resolute and continue the strike until an official directive is issued by its leadership.

In a statement signed by National Executive Officer, Comrade Lumumba Okugbawa, the union commended its members for their determination and solidarity since the commencement of the strike. Okugbawa praised workers for showing courage and insisted that the struggle was far from over, stressing that the objectives of the industrial action remained within reach.

“Our attention has been drawn to rumours making the rounds on a court injunction restraining our noble exercise. I want to unequivocally state that we have not been served anything of such. Court orders or processes are served via court bailiff and not through social media,” the directive read.

Reiterating that only official communication channels should be trusted, PENGASSAN instructed members to disregard any information that does not come from its recognised structures. The union emphasised that all clarifications should be sought through its higher organs and not through unverified sources.

The leadership maintained that the strike will continue in full force, with workers ordered to stand firm until further instructions are released. “On behalf of the National leadership of our great Association, I sincerely wish to commend you all for the courage we exhibited today in standing up for what is right. We have just begun and victory is in sight,” Okugbawa declared in the memo.

The association ended its directive with a rallying call to members, affirming its commitment to the cause and assuring them that the leadership remains united in its pursuit of justice for workers across the oil and gas sector. The strike, which has entered a critical stage, continues to attract widespread attention as the union insists that its demands must be addressed before any resolution can be reached.
