Former United States President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Friday with warm public tributes that reaffirmed their bond and silenced persistent rumors about trouble in their marriage.
The couple, married since 1992, shared the same smiling selfie on social media, with both of them posting heartfelt notes to each other that drew widespread attention.
Michelle, 61, reflected on their long journey together, writing, “We’ve been on quite the journey over the last 33 years—and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said ‘I do.’ Happy anniversary, @BarackObama! I’m so lucky to go through life with you.”
Barack, 64, echoed the sentiment by calling his marriage to Michelle the best decision of his life. In his words: “The best decision I ever made was marrying you, @MichelleObama. For 33 years, I’ve admired your strength, grace, and determination — and the fact that you look so good doing it all. Happy anniversary!”
The Obamas, parents to Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24, have often been at the center of speculation over their relationship. Earlier this year, Michelle dismissed rumors of a split, insisting she had never thought about leaving her husband despite the challenges of marriage.
“We’ve had some really hard times. So, we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to,” she explained.
Their anniversary comes shortly after Michelle humorously admitted on her podcast that Barack’s eating habits sometimes test her patience, joking that the way he chews makes her want to “smack” him.
The lighthearted exchange, coupled with their anniversary posts, has reassured fans who continue to see them as one of the most admired couples in the world.
