The relatives of Uchenna Okoro, a trader who went missing on the Enugu-Benue highway in March, have issued an urgent appeal for information regarding his whereabouts.
Okoro disappeared on March 10, 2025, while making the journey from Enugu to Makurdi. His family believes he was taken by armed individuals suspected to be herders operating in the area.
Frank Uzochukwu, speaking on behalf of the family, said authorities have provided no meaningful updates despite numerous attempts to obtain information. The prolonged silence has left relatives fearing the worst.
According to the family statement, those claiming to hold Okoro initially made contact demanding payment for his release. However, all communication ceased approximately two weeks after the incident, leaving his status unknown.
“We are in the dark about whether he is alive or not. The uncertainty is unbearable,” the family said through their representative.
The Amanator community in Ebonyi State, where Okoro hails from, joined in expressing frustration over what they described as inadequate security along the route. Community members characterized the highway as dangerous, citing repeated incidents involving travelers.
“When someone as established as Uchenna Okoro can vanish without explanation, it raises serious concerns for everyone using that road,” the community statement noted.
Months have passed since the incident, yet Okoro’s location and condition remain unconfirmed. The case adds to growing anxiety about safety on the Enugu-Benue corridor, where similar incidents have been reported with increasing frequency.
Security officials have not released any public statements regarding the investigation into Okoro’s disappearance. His family continues to await word on his fate while calling for greater protection for those traveling through the region.
