Authorities in Edo State have taken a middle-aged man into custody following allegations that he killed his wife in Auchi, located in the Etsako West Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified only as TJ, is accused of attacking his wife, Queen, with an axe on Tuesday, September 30, before leaving the scene. Law enforcement officials report that he disappeared immediately after the incident occurred.
According to a local resident who requested anonymity, the couple had recently celebrated their two-year-old son’s birthday without any apparent signs of conflict. The resident explained that neighbors retired for the night as usual, expecting to see the family the following morning.
When the couple failed to emerge from their home the next day, neighbors initially assumed they were sleeping in. The situation took a disturbing turn when the toddler walked out of the room with blood on his body. After confirming the child was unharmed, concerned residents entered the residence and discovered the woman’s body in a pool of blood with a fatal throat wound.
The husband’s absence immediately raised suspicions that he had fled after the alleged crime. Community members promptly notified the Auchi Police Division, which initiated a search operation to locate the suspect.
CSP Moses Yamu, the police command’s spokesperson, confirmed on Sunday in Benin that officers successfully apprehended the suspect. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
Yamu stated that the suspect is now in custody at the State CID, where investigators are conducting a thorough examination of the case. He assured the public that the command remains committed to ensuring the legal process runs its course and that justice will be pursued in this matter.
