Iran stated on Saturday that it lacks confidence in Israel’s willingness to honor the Gaza ceasefire that took effect one day earlier, ending two years of conflict.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning about what he described as deceptive tactics by Israel concerning prior agreements. He emphasized that there is no basis for trust in the Israeli government, referencing previous truces that were broken, including those in Lebanon.
Despite these concerns, Araghchi confirmed Iran’s backing of the ceasefire initiative. He stated that Tehran has consistently supported any measure aimed at stopping what he characterized as Israeli crimes.
In a statement released Thursday, Iran’s foreign ministry said the country has always endorsed efforts that include ending the war, withdrawing occupation forces, delivering humanitarian assistance, freeing Palestinian detainees, and upholding fundamental Palestinian rights.
The two nations engaged in a 12-day military confrontation in June, which erupted after Israel conducted large-scale strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and military sites.
