Two young men suspected of stealing a vehicle were arrested by the Katsina State Police Command after they allegedly tried to bribe officers with ₦1,000,000 in a failed attempt to escape justice. The arrest took place on April 11, 2025, at about 3:00 PM in Birnin Kuka village, located within the Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The suspects, identified as Mubarak Kabir, 26, and Adamu Hashim, 27, both from Kurna quarters in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, were intercepted by officers of the Border Patrol Team attached to Zone 4. The officers had stopped a green Toyota Corolla LE during a routine patrol when they became suspicious of the occupants and the vehicle itself.
Initial findings revealed that the car had been reported stolen in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. When confronted, the suspects allegedly attempted to offer the officers ₦1 million in cash to avoid arrest. The police team refused the bribe and proceeded to detain both men on the spot.
Recovered from the suspects were the stolen Toyota Corolla, the ₦1 million cash allegedly meant as a bribe, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys. The police have launched a deeper investigation to uncover the full scope of the suspects’ activities and whether they are part of a larger car theft network.
The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Deputy Superintendent Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the arrest and assured that further updates would be provided as the investigation unfolds. Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu praised their courage and refusal to compromise their integrity. He stated that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, and will continue to uphold high ethical standards while enforcing the law.
The case highlights both the growing concerns over vehicle theft in the region and the determination of law enforcement officers to uphold justice without fear or favour.
