JAMB Clears the Air: Candidates Free to Choose Exam Centres Nationwide

JAMB confirms UTME candidates can take exams in any town across Nigeria, regardless of where they registered. Learn the facts behind the misleading reports and how it affects you.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has confirmed that candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination are free to take the exam in any part of Nigeria, regardless of where they initially registered. This clarification comes in response to a misleading publication that claimed students were restricted to taking the test only within their registration states.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, addressed the misinformation during an interview, stating that the claim made by the news outlet was completely false. He emphasized that candidates are allowed to register from any location in the country and are equally free to choose any town nationwide as their examination centre.

According to him, Computer-Based Test centres are grouped by towns to make things easier for students. Once a candidate selects a town for their exam, they are expected to take the test in that specific location and will not be reassigned elsewhere. He gave an example of a candidate who registers in Lagos and chooses to sit for the exam in Sokoto—such an arrangement is perfectly acceptable under JAMB’s current system.

Fabian stressed that the goal is to provide flexibility and convenience, allowing students to make choices that best suit their individual situations. He urged the public and candidates to completely disregard the inaccurate report, which he said has caused unnecessary concern.

JAMB reassures all UTME candidates that there are no restrictions tied to the state of registration when it comes to selecting an examination town.
