Gunmen Attack NDLEA Officers in Abuja During Drug Raid

Three NDLEA officers were shot during a drug raid in Abuja. See what was recovered and how authorities are responding.

Three operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are receiving treatment in a hospital after being shot during a drug raid in Abuja.

The attack happened on Thursday night in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory. NDLEA officers were acting on intelligence reports when they stormed an uncompleted building near the NNPC area. The operation led to the discovery of 74 bottles of codeine, 10 liters of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a strong form of cannabis), and five android phones.

As the officers were leaving the scene, armed men opened fire on them. Three operatives were hit—one in the rib, another in the back, and a third in the leg. They were first treated at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being moved to the National Hospital in Abuja for further care.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), who is currently in Kano for official duties, personally called the injured officers to wish them a speedy recovery. He also praised the swift actions of the Police Clinic staff and thanked the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for stepping in to help.

Marwa confirmed that the agency is working with other security forces to identify those responsible for the attack. He assured that all resources would be used to bring the attackers to justice.
