Armed terrorists believed to be members of Boko Haram launched an assault on the Gwoza local government headquarters in Borno state on Friday night. This attack follows a deadly raid the previous Thursday in Yamtake village, located approximately 14 kilometers from Gwoza town, where two soldiers and an unknown number of civilians were killed.
Residents fleeing the scene reported that the attack on Gwoza began around 11:08 PM, with the 26 Task Force Brigade engaging the assailants. As gunfire and explosions filled the town, people scrambled to safety. The number of casualties from the ongoing attack is yet to be confirmed.
Notably, Gwoza had once served as a stronghold for Boko Haram before being liberated by military forces a few years ago. Further details on the situation will be provided as they emerge.
