Airtel Nigeria has reported that its artificial intelligence-powered Spam Alert Service identified more than 9.6 million suspicious text messages between March 13 and May 20, 2025. The announcement was made in a statement released in Lagos on Monday.
The company said the tool was launched to shield customers from unsolicited and potentially fraudulent messages. Within just two months of going live, the system flagged a total of 9,667,008 spam texts. Of these, 528,080 originated within the Airtel network, while 9,138,928 came from outside sources. This shows that most of the threat is external.
Airtel explained that the AI tool was built not only to detect these threats but to keep improving as it processes more data. The company emphasized that protecting customer trust is key to its operations and that investing in smarter, more responsive systems is part of its long-term commitment to safety and innovation.
The statement added that as cyber threats grow more complex, Airtel will continue to enhance its digital security tools to ensure a safer experience for all users.
