Archbishop Okeke Brings Easter Joy and Lasting Impact to Onitsha Inmates

During his Easter visit, Archbishop Okeke shared a powerful message of hope, donated food and essentials, and encouraged inmates at Onitsha Correctional Centre to embrace positive change.

During a heartfelt Easter visit to the Onitsha Correctional Centre, Archbishop Valerian Okeke shared an inspiring message centered on love, transformation, and renewal. He drew attention to the story of Mary Magdalene, whose life changed completely after her encounter with Jesus. According to him, her unwavering devotion led her to become the first to witness Christ’s resurrection, demonstrating how love and genuine worship can lead to a higher life.

The Archbishop emphasized that anyone who worships God sincerely and with love will experience positive change. He explained that showing kindness to others invites kindness in return and reminded everyone that God’s blessings are not selective. He encouraged both inmates and visitors to do good to others as they would want good done to them, especially on a day when the resurrection of Jesus is celebrated as a symbol of new beginnings.

As part of the visit, Archbishop Okeke presented a variety of items to the inmates. These included cooked rice and meat, live cows, toiletries, food supplies, cakes, and more. He urged the inmates to take full advantage of the opportunities available within the custodial facility to rebuild their lives and emerge as better individuals when released.

Reverend Father Barth Okpalugo, Chaplain of the Correctional Centre, noted the Archbishop’s deep commitment to the centre. He highlighted the multimillion-naira skill acquisition centre established by the Archbishop, where inmates receive training in different trades. Fr. Okpalugo also pointed to the Archbishop’s ongoing contributions to the education, health, and welfare of the inmates.

Valentine Nwosu, the Controller of Corrections in Anambra State, praised the Archbishop’s consistent support, describing it as a source of hope and encouragement. He said the Archbishop’s dedication to serving both God and humanity has been evident through his continuous outreach to the inmates over the years.

Several dignitaries joined the Archbishop during the Easter outreach. These included Accord Party governorship candidate Sir Chidi C. Onyeeze, former APC governorship aspirant Valentine Ozigbo, and Dr. Reeka Fodor, a Hungarian charity volunteer serving within the Archdiocese. Their presence and support further underscored the significance of the occasion and the shared commitment to restoring dignity and purpose among the inmates.
