Mr Bashir Ojulari, the newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), has announced an ambitious roadmap aimed at transforming the company and positioning it as a key player in the global energy sector. Speaking during a town hall meeting with NNPC staff in Abuja shortly after assuming office, Ojulari outlined clear targets to attract $30 billion in sectoral investments by 2027 and an impressive $60 billion by 2030.
The new GCEO made it clear that his administration will prioritize raising Nigeria’s crude oil production to more than two million barrels per day and sustain that volume through 2027, intending to reach three million barrels per day by 2030. He emphasized that these targets are not merely numerical goals but symbols of economic revitalization, energy security, job creation, and hope for millions of Nigerians.
Ojulari also revealed strategic plans to expand refining capacity significantly. The company is aiming to refine up to 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 and scale that up to 500,000 barrels per day by the end of the decade. On the gas front, he disclosed that production would be scaled to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and further increased to 12 billion cubic feet by 2030, ensuring broader access to energy and a more affordable supply across the country.
According to a statement released by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the GCEO stressed that his leadership will focus on restructuring the business for speed and value, promoting data-driven decision-making through independent value assessments, and embedding a performance-driven culture across all levels of the organization.
Ojulari pledged to build transparent and purposeful partnerships with all stakeholders while ensuring that NNPC takes full control of its narrative. He expressed confidence that the transformation of NNPC into a fully commercial limited liability company could only be successful if backed by transparency, accountability, and a united workforce.
He urged employees to embrace the company’s recent transformation journey with pride, pointing out that the path ahead would require resilience, innovation, and a renewed commitment to excellence. He promised an environment where both seasoned professionals and young talents could thrive, ensuring that the company remains competitive both at home and abroad.
Ojulari assured the staff that he would foster a workplace that values collaboration and mutual respect, especially by deepening engagement with internal and national unions. He encouraged every team member to lead with integrity and act with a sense of urgency while striving for peak performance.
Highlighting the importance of the workforce to NNPC’s success, Ojulari said the company’s biggest strength lies in its people. He committed to nurturing a professional environment where every employee feels empowered, motivated, and inspired to contribute meaningfully to NNPC’s growth and Nigeria’s broader energy ambitions.
He concluded by stating that with a shared vision, NNPC Ltd. can become a world-class, high-performing organization that Nigerians can proudly call their own.
