On April 13, 2025, influential All Progressives Congress (APC) figures in Borno convened in Maiduguri, declaring their unwavering allegiance to President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Babagana Zulum. The pivotal gathering, hosted by Zulum, underscored a collective dedication to the APC’s foundational values and its leadership. A statement, signed by state Chairman Bello Ayuba and Secretary Mustapha Loskuri, detailed their pledge to advance the party’s objectives.
The leaders expressed strong endorsement of the Tinubu/Shettima administration, encouraging Shettima to champion its policies diligently. They commended Zulum’s governance, urging him to continue prioritizing Borno’s recovery and progress. The assembly rejected any shift from the APC’s principles, affirming Borno’s role as a loyal party stronghold with no intention of political realignment.
Party members were called to safeguard the APC’s reputation and promote unity, dismissing efforts by some to sow division. The group pressed the national APC leadership to strengthen internal democracy and organizational frameworks to ensure sustained dominance.
They also appealed to the Federal Government to maintain support for Borno’s security and development, spotlighting ongoing oil exploration in Kolmani and Lake Chad alongside investments in road infrastructure to enhance economic and security outcomes in the northeast. Confidence in the APC’s trajectory was palpable, with leaders committing to aligning Borno with the party’s broader goals.
The meeting attracted key figures, including APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Ali Bukar Dalori, Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Kaka Shehu Lawan, House of Representatives members, former governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan, former ambassadors Baba Ahmed Jidda and Dauda Danladi, alongside state assembly members, local government chairmen, and other prominent stakeholders.
