CAN Provides Aid to Victims of Plateau Attacks Amid Rising Tensions

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) delivers relief to those affected by recent attacks in Plateau State, expressing solidarity and urging government action to address growing insecurity.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended support to the survivors of the recent violent attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State. On Thursday, Rev. Stephen Panya, the Vice President of CAN, led a delegation to visit the affected communities, offering both condolence messages and essential relief materials.

In his address, Rev. Panya emphasized the association’s commitment to standing with the people and government of Plateau State, particularly the families and communities directly impacted by the attacks. He condemned the brutality of the attackers, describing their actions as inhumane and an act of terrorism. He also reaffirmed CAN’s solidarity with the victims, highlighting that the body of Christ and the power of God are present to support them during these difficult times.

The Vice President of CAN also voiced strong disapproval of attempts to downplay the severity of the attacks, urging that these violent acts should not be mischaracterized as simple communal misunderstandings. Instead, he stated that these incidents represent premeditated genocidal acts targeted at the indigenous Christian population, committed by terrorists with malicious intentions. Rev. Panya expressed hope that the perpetrators would repent but also acknowledged that their actions would ultimately lead to their downfall, citing a passage from Ecclesiastes.

CAN praised the efforts of both the President of Nigeria and the Governor of Plateau State in addressing the crisis but called for an intensification of security measures to protect citizens. Rev. Panya lamented the ongoing loss of life and destruction, stressing that Nigerian communities have become increasingly vulnerable to attacks. He urged the government to take swift and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed, pointing out that without effective measures, the future of the country remains uncertain.

The relief materials provided to the survivors included foodstuffs, toiletries, and building materials, aimed at helping those who have been displaced or injured. The CAN leadership also encouraged the security agencies to take more proactive steps in apprehending the criminals responsible for the attacks and bringing them to justice, referencing Ecclesiastes 8:11 to highlight the importance of swift justice.

The efforts by CAN were widely recognized as a vital support to the victims, offering both physical and emotional comfort in the face of the ongoing violence that has plagued the region.
