Emirate Leadership Crisis: Parallel Turbaning Ceremonies of Galadiman Kano by Sanusi and Bayero

Two separate turbaning ceremonies for Galadiman Kano were held by Emir Sanusi and Emir Bayero, highlighting a growing leadership rivalry in the emirate.

The recent turbaning ceremonies of the new Galadiman Kano and four other prominent leaders in the Kano Emirate marked a significant moment following the passing of Abbas Sanusi, the last holder of the title. The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, officiated the ceremony, which included the installation of Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim as Wamban Kano, Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero as Turakin Kano, Adam Lamido Sanusi as Tafidan Kano, and Alhaji Ahmad Abbas Sanusi as Yariman Kano. Emir Sanusi emphasized that the appointments were based on the exemplary contributions and dedication of the individuals and their families to the betterment of society. He urged the new appointees to lead with loyalty, humility, and compassion, following the traditions and values set by their predecessors.

The event, held at the Kofar Kudu Palace, was attended by Governor Abba Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, religious and traditional leaders, as well as friends and family of the new appointees. In a parallel event, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also held a turbaning ceremony for Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero at the Nassarawa Mini Palace, similarly emphasizing his wealth of experience and contributions to the emirate.

This dual turbaning highlights the ongoing leadership tussle within the Kano Emirate, with both Sanusi and Bayero asserting their influence over key traditional positions in the region.
