Federal Government Empowers Delta Women with Food Supplies and Solar Power

Thousands of Delta women receive rice, solar kits, and fabrics as part of FG's Renewed Hope Empowerment Programme launched in Asaba.

A large crowd of women in Delta State gathered in Asaba on Tuesday as the Federal Government officially launched the Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme. The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, led the flag-off, distributing food items, fabrics, and solar-powered home systems to women, families, and vulnerable groups.

Each beneficiary received a 50kg bag of rice, fabric materials, and a solar home system designed to improve energy access and boost small businesses. The minister explained that this support is not just about meeting immediate needs—it’s a strategic step to empower women socially, economically, and politically.

She emphasized that these solar systems are more than just lights. They are a doorway to better living conditions—improving household security, reducing health risks from kerosene and firewood, and supporting women-led businesses. According to her, this intervention reflects a broader national effort to reduce energy poverty and promote inclusive development.

The Minister assured the crowd of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing women in national development. She stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda aims to position women at the forefront of Nigeria’s progress, not just as participants but as key drivers.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim encouraged women not to view the items as handouts but as tools to build a better future. She highlighted that when women have economic assets, they uplift their households. When they have clean energy, they save their time, health, and potential. And when they are included in leadership, they influence entire communities.

Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, joined the event and expressed the state’s support for the initiative. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to align with national programmes that benefit citizens, especially women, under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The gathering ended on a hopeful note, with songs and chants from women celebrating the intervention and looking forward to more community-focused initiatives from the federal and state governments.
