Federal Government Launches Committee to Organize 2025 Democracy Day Celebration

Nigeria's Federal Government forms a special committee to plan a memorable 2025 Democracy Day, honoring democratic heroes and showcasing government achievements.

The Federal Government has established an Inter-Ministerial Committee to plan and manage the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations. The committee was officially inaugurated in Abuja and is tasked with ensuring the event is memorable and fitting.

Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), highlighted that the celebration offers a chance to honor Nigeria’s founding fathers and democratic heroes for their sacrifices in advancing democracy. Represented by Senator Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Akume emphasized the importance of reflecting on the efforts that led to Nigeria’s independence and the end of military rule. He stated that celebrating Democracy Day recognizes these figures’ vital role in the nation’s history.

The event also serves as a platform for the government to showcase its achievements and share a performance report with citizens. Members of the committee were urged to work together closely to support President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The committee’s responsibilities include planning and executing all approved Democracy Day activities, involving relevant individuals and organizations, documenting all events for future records, and handling any other tasks necessary for the celebration’s success.
