Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed his appreciation for the prompt and effective actions taken by the Directorate of State Services (DSS) in apprehending five individuals involved in the abduction and tragic murder of one-year-old Sakina Mamuda in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area.
On May 8, 2025, Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that the suspects had kidnapped the infant, demanding a ransom from her family before brutally killing her. The perpetrators then discarded her lifeless body in an abandoned well. The arrested individuals—Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu—are all from the same community as the victim. They are currently under investigation for conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.
During a press briefing at the Government House in Kano, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, alongside other senior officials, reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring swift and fair justice for the victim. Governor Yusuf conveyed his heartfelt sorrow over the incident, praising the DSS and other security agencies for their prompt response.
He assured the public that his government would continue to enhance the state’s security infrastructure through better intelligence gathering, improved logistics, and stronger inter-agency collaboration. “This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor stated. “We will continue to prioritize the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”
Governor Yusuf also urged citizens to stay vigilant and actively support security efforts by providing timely information. Public outrage over the incident has been intense, with widespread calls for the swift prosecution of the suspects and the strictest legal actions against those who harm children.
