Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has committed to tackling maternal and child mortality by improving healthcare facilities in the state. During the inauguration of the 100-bed Senator Oluremi Tinubu Mother and Child Centre in Awo-Omamma, the governor emphasized that his administration is focused on enhancing healthcare access for women and children. The hospital, funded and equipped by the federal government under President Bola Tinubu’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, is set to provide crucial healthcare services to the state’s most vulnerable populations.
Governor Uzodimma expressed his gratitude to the SDGs office for making the project a reality, highlighting it as a key part of the state’s ongoing health improvements. His administration has already introduced mobile rural clinics and built new hospitals, including a general hospital and a specialist facility in Umuguma. Additionally, the governor revealed that the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Orlu had been revived and accredited, further improving healthcare opportunities.
First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the Vice President’s wife, Hajia Nana Shettima, praised the collaboration that led to the hospital’s establishment. She stressed the importance of maternal and child health in fostering a healthier society and urged the community to take ownership of the facility for its long-term success.
Imo’s First Lady, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, thanked Senator Tinubu for her vision in addressing maternal health and expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support. She described the hospital as a beacon of hope for mothers and children across the state. Barr. Chioma also noted that the 100-bed facility aligns with the state government’s broader health improvement goals.
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulere, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, commended Governor Uzodimma for his partnership in bringing the hospital to fruition. She encouraged the people of Imo to safeguard the facility, ensuring it benefits future generations.
The event concluded with the official commissioning of the ultramodern healthcare centre by Hajia Nana Shettima, marking a new chapter in healthcare for Imo State.
