Kaduna Government to Meet with ASUU to Resolve KASU Strike

The Kaduna State Government is ready to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to address the ongoing strike at Kaduna State University (KASU).

The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a bid to resolve the strike action at Kaduna State University (KASU). This decision was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Rabiu Yunusa, during a press briefing. He confirmed that discussions would be held between ASUU, the Ministry of Education, and KASU management to find a common resolution.

Alhaji Rabiu explained that an agreement had already been reached with the university lecturers, and approval was nearly completed before ASUU initiated the strike. The union’s outstanding demands, which total N4 billion, date back to previous administrations. However, the government has committed to paying these allowances in installments due to the state’s financial situation.

While acknowledging the strike, Alhaji Rabiu cautioned that it could hinder KASU’s progress under the current administration. He highlighted the efforts of Governor Uba Sani in improving the university, including the accreditation of nine science courses, which was facilitated with an investment of over N290 million.

The Permanent Secretary expressed his gratitude towards Governor Uba Sani for his continuous support to the education sector and his consistent fulfillment of promises to the Ministry of Education. He urged the KASU chapter of ASUU to recognize these efforts.

It’s also notable that as a Senator, Governor Uba Sani played a key role in the construction of the Faculty of Engineering at KASU’s permanent site, which remains the largest intervention in any state university.
