Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, has officially left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement was made through a brief statement to the press in Kano, where Sumaila confirmed the rumors of his defection.
He expressed that his primary focus has always been, and continues to be, the welfare of his constituents. “All politics is local,” Sumaila remarked, underscoring his dedication to improving the lives and securing the future of those he represents.
Previously, Sumaila was among four lawmakers suspended by the Hashimu Dungurawa-led faction of the NNPP in Kano, over accusations of anti-party activities. Other lawmakers affected by the suspension included Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Ali Madakin Gini, and Sani Abdullahi Rogo. In response, Sumaila had rejected the suspension, labeling it unfounded and ineffective. He also reaffirmed his allegiance to the legitimate faction of the NNPP, which he described as the authentic one, symbolized by the fruit and basket logo.
Senator Sumaila’s defection marks another shift in Kano’s political landscape.
