Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, following the recent political shift in Delta State. On Wednesday, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, along with his cabinet, officially announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This move is seen as a significant political development in the region.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, Keyamo celebrated the event, posting a video showing Governor Oborevwori and his team singing the anthem “On Your Mandate,” which is closely associated with President Tinubu. Keyamo’s message read: “Today is the day the Lord has made in Delta State. Finally, finally, Delta is APC! Thank you, Mr. President, for your leadership that has attracted the best to our Party. Thank you, my leader, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for your foresight and courage in taking this bold decision.”
Additionally, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was the PDP’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, also confirmed his defection to the APC. Senator James Manager added that key figures within Delta State, including the governor, former governor Okowa, the state Speaker, the state party chairman, and all local government chairmen, had agreed to join the APC. The manager highlighted the need to move away from what he described as a “sinking boat.”
Traditionally, Delta State has been a stronghold for the PDP. However, the defections of Governor Oborevwori, Okowa, and their cabinet members signal a significant collapse of the PDP’s influence in the state.
