The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, led a team to visit the family of late Christian Chukwu, a former Green Eagles captain and Super Eagles coach. Chukwu, affectionately known as “Chairman,” passed away on April 12 at the age of 74.
During the visit, Gusau, represented by NFF 1st Vice President Felix Anyansi-Agwu, described Chukwu as a patriotic and devoted legend who selflessly served Nigeria as a player and coach. Gusau emphasized that Chukwu’s impact would never be forgotten, stating, “He is a hero even in death. Christian Chukwu can never be forgotten for his dedication and remarkable achievements for Nigeria.”
The visit also focused on expressing condolences and aligning with the family on funeral arrangements. Gusau reaffirmed the NFF’s commitment to fully participate in honoring Chukwu, calling him a national treasure.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Chukwu’s son, Emeka, expressed gratitude for the visit. He mentioned that details of the final burial plans for the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning captain would be announced soon.
The delegation included notable figures such as NFF Executive Committee Member George Aluo and Football Association chairmen Tony Ugwu, Ifeanyi Dike, and Chikelue Iloenyosi.
