Nigerian Immigration Service Extends Contactless Passport Renewal to Four Countries by April 2025

Nigerian Immigration Service launches contactless passport renewal in the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil by April 14, 2025

The Nigerian Immigration Service has introduced its Contactless Biometric Passport Application System in the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil, according to a statement released on Sunday by ACI AS Akinlabi, the service’s Public Relations Officer, via the agency’s official X account.

This expansion aims to simplify passport renewals for Nigerians living abroad by allowing them to use the NIS Mobile App, available on the Google Play Store, without needing to visit passport offices for biometric data capture. An Apple Store version of the app is expected to launch soon, with an upgraded version for both Android and iOS platforms to enhance user experience and accessibility.

The rollout is scheduled for April 11, 2025, in the USA, followed by April 14, 2025, in Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil. The system is already operational in Canada, Europe, Asia, and the newly added countries, though Australia and Nigeria are still awaiting implementation, with dates to be announced later.

The agency emphasized its dedication to innovative and efficient service, ensuring Nigerians worldwide can access streamlined passport renewal processes.
