The Nigerian Armed Forces have been urged to adopt innovative and forward-thinking strategies to respond more effectively to growing security threats. This call came from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, who stressed the importance of adapting to modern warfare demands. Represented by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu at the Second Quarter 2025 Defence Headquarters and Services Transformation Seminar held in Abuja, Ogalla said innovation and continuous learning were now critical to national defence.
He explained that Nigeria’s security challenges have grown more complex and require modern tactics, updated doctrines, and refined planning. According to him, the military has shown commitment to modernising its systems, but more effort is needed to remain proactive. He emphasised the importance of learning from past operations to improve and reshape military responses to present and future threats.
Rear Admiral Monday Unurhiere, represented by Rear Admiral John Okeke, added that the seminar aimed to spark deep discussions around current military issues and explore practical ideas for building a more flexible and effective force. He said innovation must become a core part of military culture to boost operational and administrative success.
Also speaking, Rear Admiral Habila Zakaria, Director of Transformation at the Defence Headquarters, told journalists that the security threats facing the country are constantly changing. He said this means the military’s doctrine and approach must evolve too, calling for fresh strategies that can stop threats early before they grow into bigger problems.
