The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) have finalized plans to grow Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy by expanding export operations, aiming to generate $7 million in daily revenue through fertilizer exports. During a recent visit to the NPA headquarters in Lagos, Aliko Dangote, President of DIL, emphasized the importance of maintaining strong cooperation between Dangote and the NPA, highlighting that Dangote is currently the largest customer of the ports authority. He detailed that their Lekki operation alone will handle nearly 240 crude oil ships annually, each carrying one million barrels, along with over 600 product shipments. The fertilizer export business will load about eight ships each year, a scale never before seen in Nigeria. Dangote stressed that the success of these operations depends heavily on the quality of services provided by the NPA. He called for increased support from the Federal Government to equip the NPA with necessary tools, including more tugboats, to meet growing demands. NPA’s Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, welcomed Dangote’s appreciation, noting the positive impact of the One Stop Shop policy on the Naira-for-Crude transactions coordinated by the authority. This partnership marks a significant step toward enhancing Nigeria’s export capabilities and boosting the nation’s economy.
