A 32-year-old police officer from the Toms River Police Department in New Jersey, Rebecca Sayegh, has been charged with a series of offences after allegedly breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s home, assaulting two individuals, and making threats to burn the house down. According to court documents, the incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on a Friday in Berkeley Township. Sayegh reportedly used her baton to force her way through the residence’s front door. Inside, she confronted her former partner and another woman, which led to a physical altercation.
The victims attempted to restrain Sayegh, but she broke free and began smashing household items and pictures. The officer then allegedly resisted arrest and fought with the responding officers. As she left the scene, she reportedly threatened to set the house on fire. Prior to the break-in, Sayegh is also accused of damaging the victim’s vehicle.
Sayegh is facing multiple charges, including home invasion, two counts of assault, criminal mischief, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest. Her attorney, Terrance Turnbach, stated that she is taking the charges seriously and fully cooperating with the ongoing legal process. Sayegh has been suspended without pay from the police force. Notably, six months before the incident, Sayegh had filed a lawsuit against her department alleging sexual harassment.
