Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance against criminal activities in Ondo State, promising that criminal elements hiding in forests and communities across the state are already being flushed out. Speaking during an interactive session with youth groups in Akure, the governor said calm is returning to troubled areas and warned that the state will remain a no-go zone for those threatening public peace. He said his administration is working hand-in-hand with security agencies to clamp down on criminals, making it clear that law-abiding citizens will continue to enjoy government protection, but those disturbing the peace will face tough consequences.
He expressed gratitude to the youth of the state, acknowledging their massive support during the November 2024 governorship election. According to him, the widespread backing he received across all 18 local government areas was critical to his victory. The governor used the opportunity to unveil his seven-point development agenda tagged “Our Ease,” which includes key pillars such as rural and urban development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, power, technological growth, and enhanced security.
Speaking passionately about youth empowerment, Aiyedatiwa described young people as the strength of Ondo’s future. He highlighted some of his administration’s achievements, including nano grants provided to 5,000 youth-led businesses, engagement of 15,000 young people in government work programs, and the establishment of Youth Skill Centres as part of the One-Youth-One-Skill initiative. He announced plans to appoint a young Commissioner for Youth Affairs and promised more employment and empowerment opportunities for young people in the coming months.
He encouraged youths to make the most of the initiatives being rolled out and warned against destructive behavior that could slow down the state’s development. The governor emphasized that peaceful protests are welcome but must come only after dialogue with appropriate authorities. He urged young citizens to channel their energy into building stronger communities, stating that his government believes in their potential and remains fully committed to helping them succeed.
The governor also highlighted educational reforms already underway. These include the payment of WAEC and NABTEB fees, scholarship and bursary disbursements for undergraduates, the recruitment of over 2,000 new teachers, and widespread renovations of school facilities.
In a show of solidarity, the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Orioye Gbayisemore, praised the governor’s efforts and urged youths to align themselves with the government’s development vision. Gbayisemore referenced the One-Youth-One-Skill scheme as a clear example of targeted empowerment.
Representatives from Ondo’s three senatorial districts also voiced support for the governor’s leadership, while urging him to go further in making young people feel more included in governance. Mr. Abiola Obanoyen from the North, Miss Yewande Omobomi from the Central region, and Mr. Jonathan Obatola from the South each echoed the need for stronger engagement.
Commander of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, addressed the forum and restated the agency’s resolve to fight insecurity head-on. He called for unity, collaboration, and continued vigilance, stressing that despite limited resources, the outfit remains undeterred in its mission to protect lives and property throughout the state.
