Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant in Anambra State, has filed a suit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal High Court in Awka, contesting the legitimacy of the party’s gubernatorial primary held on April 5, 2025. Ozigbo is asking the court to disqualify the candidate who emerged from the primary, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and to recognize him as the rightful candidate.
In the legal action, Ozigbo has named the APC, Ukachukwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. His legal team, led by Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Umeh Kalu and B.C. Igwilo filed the suit. Ozigbo is requesting a court order to nullify Ukachukwu’s nomination, claiming that the APC violated its internal rules by allowing Ukachukwu to contest.
The case will determine whether Ukachukwu’s candidacy breached the party’s eligibility criteria. At this time, the court has not set a date for the hearing.
In a statement titled “For a Future Worth Fighting For,” Ozigbo expressed his resolve to seek justice, not for personal gain, but for the truth and the people of Anambra. He criticized the April 5 primary, describing it as a “well-scripted illusion.” He accused the APC of using a delegate list that included unfamiliar names and said the primary was marked by violence, chaos, and the involvement of thugs masquerading as delegates.
Ozigbo further claimed that Ukachukwu failed to meet the APC’s constitutional eligibility requirements to run for the governorship, arguing that the party manipulated its internal processes to favor his candidacy.
