Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre (DCC), has expressed disappointment over the growing disconnect between Nigerian leaders and the country’s poor. Speaking on Channels TV on May 22, Adeyemi highlighted that some leaders have lost their sense of empathy and compassion. He noted that they now focus more on preserving their political power than on addressing the needs of the people.
He further explained that this fear of losing power has led to a frequent switch between political parties by leaders. Adeyemi believes this shift undermines effective governance, with some leaders completely detached from the realities of everyday Nigerians.
The pastor also pointed out that the political system in Nigeria is driven by powerful godfathers rather than the citizens’ votes. He lamented that this system breeds leaders who lose sight of their initial mission to serve the people. Instead, they are influenced by personal gain and the need to please political backers. Adeyemi emphasized that the political landscape often results in well-educated and intelligent individuals becoming corrupted in their pursuit of success.
