A large group of protesters gathered at the Lagos APC Secretariat in Ikeja on Monday to voice their strong opposition to the re-nomination of Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya for a second term as chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA. The demonstrators carried signs and banners, expressing anger over what they called the undue support for Akinsanya by political figures, including former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and party leader Enilolobo.
Comrade Olokodana Bukhari spoke for the crowd, warning that if the APC goes ahead with Akinsanya’s candidacy, it could lead to serious electoral consequences in 2027. Bukhari criticised Akinsanya’s tenure, saying he has failed to meet the needs of residents and that the LCDA ranks low in the state’s development reports. He also questioned Akinsanya’s commitment to the party’s campaigns, suggesting a lack of loyalty and effort.
Alhaji Mohammed Usman, representing the Arewa community, said the protest was about pushing for progress and stability, emphasising that people want growth, not stagnation. Mrs. Dayo Aderinmola, a local women’s leader, asked the APC leadership to investigate a petition submitted by the protesters containing their complaints.
APC State Secretary Dr. Adeola Jokomba addressed the protesters, promising to review their concerns. He urged them to stay peaceful and not let outsiders hijack the movement. Dr. Jokomba accepted the petition and said Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, the delegation leader, would be contacted by week’s end.
Comrade Olokodana expressed hope that the party would take the issues seriously following the meeting.
