A protest took place in Lagos over a multi-storey building allegedly built illegally beside the family home of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi. The structure, known as APARTMENT, is situated at No. 9 Ademola Close, off Fani Kayode Street in Ikeja GRA. Protesters claim the building was erected without proper approval and fails to meet the required minimum setback from the Fawehinmi residence.
According to the group, which included Femi Falana, Adeyinka Olumode-Fusika, Adindu Ugwuzor, Richard Akinnola, Femi Aborisade, and Lanre Arogundade, the building is dangerously close to the Fawehinmi home. They insist that it violates Lagos State’s urban planning laws, which require at least a three-meter distance between buildings. Protesters said the close proximity of the structure could affect the family’s privacy and security.
They also expressed concern that the building’s height and commercial potential may attract criminal activity. Its size and location, they argued, could give cover to individuals with bad intentions. The group described the building as a permanent risk to the safety of the Fawehinmi family and called for it to be pulled down immediately.
