Record-Breaking Hurdle Race in Miami as Russell Shines

Masai Russell runs 12.17 seconds in Miami, earning the second fastest 100m hurdles time in history. A thrilling race just shy of a world record!

Olympic champion Masai Russell delivered a historic performance at the Grand Slam Track meeting in Miami on Saturday, recording the second-fastest 100m hurdles time in history. The 24-year-old American crossed the finish line in a world-leading 12.17 seconds, narrowly missing Tobi Amusan’s world record of 12.12 seconds set at the 2022 World Championships.

Tia Jones, also from the United States, came in a close second with a time of 12.19 seconds, the third-fastest time ever recorded. Both athletes raced under a strong following wind of +2.0 m/s, which matched the legal limit.

Russell expressed her excitement after the race, saying, “I don’t even know what to say, these girls bring the best out of me every time.” Her time not only set a new American record but also marked a significant improvement from her previous season-best of 12.62 seconds achieved in Gainesville, Florida, last month.

Ackera Nugent claimed third place with a time of 12.34 seconds, while former world record-holder Keni Harrison secured fourth in 12.40 seconds. The spectacular showdown at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar showcased the top talents in women’s hurdles, promising more thrilling contests ahead.
