Relief for Kachia Residents as Military Base Approved to Combat Banditry

Governor Uba Sani's approval for a Military Forward Operations Base in Kachia brings hope to residents devastated by banditry. The new base aims to restore peace and safety.

Residents of Barga, a community in Awon ward, Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, are seeing a glimmer of hope as Governor Uba Sani has approved the establishment of a Military Forward Operations Base (FOB) near Rijana forest, a notorious bandit stronghold. This development follows years of devastating attacks that have plagued the area, with frequent kidnappings, cattle rustling, and home evacuations.

Community leader Zanko Adamu shared his optimism during a tour of the project by All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, stating that the new military base will reduce bandit activity and bring much-needed security to the area. He highlighted the severe consequences of the attacks, which have forced many residents to abandon their homes and farmlands, disrupting both the social fabric and local economy.

Mark Bawa, a local resident, praised the governor for responding swiftly to the community’s call for help. He explained that the constant attacks have left the once-thriving farming community in ruins, with agricultural production declining and food shortages becoming a growing concern. “I pray this nightmare ends,” he said, reflecting the collective desire for peace to return.

The socio-economic toll of the attacks was further emphasized by Hannatu Dikko, who noted that many businesses have closed, and schools have remained shut, leaving children without an education.

Kachia LGA Chairman, Dr. Manzo Maigari, stated that the military base is part of the state’s rural infrastructure development plan. He added that once operational, the FOB will enhance military response times and surveillance capabilities. Dr. Maigari called on the residents to cooperate with security agencies, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring safety for all.
