Seven Abducted, Three Children Rescued After Armed Attack on Kwara Highway

Gunmen abducted seven travelers along Kwara road; police rescue three children and launch search operation.

A group of armed men suspected to be kidnappers ambushed a commercial vehicle along the Obbo-Aiyegunle/Osi road in Kwara State, taking seven passengers into the forest and leaving three children behind. The attack happened around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the Ekiti Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly traveling from Abuja to Offa town in Kwara when the attackers stopped their Sienna bus, registered as KW FFA 50 XD and operated by Olumoh Transport. According to reports, the assailants emerged suddenly, blocked the road, and forced the vehicle to a halt at gunpoint. They then led seven occupants, including the driver, into the nearby bush and fled.

Mr. Mukaila Ogunlade, secretary of the transport company, confirmed the incident. He stated that while the vehicle left Abuja with five passengers, two more boarded along the route. He added that the children, who remained on the bus, provided helpful information that confirmed the abduction of seven individuals.

Following the attack, the Kwara State Police Command responded quickly. In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command confirmed the abduction and shared updates on the rescue mission. With support from local vigilantes, officers recovered the vehicle and launched a search of the surrounding forest. Three children, aged between 2 and 12, were found and safely rescued.

One of the children was able to give details about her guardian, helping the police reunite all three with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, assured the public that every effort is being made to find the abducted passengers. He said the command is relying on coordinated investigations, local intelligence, and continued search operations in the affected area. He also called on the public to provide any useful information through official police channels.
