Southern Nigerian Monarchs Express Condolences to Uromi Victims’ Families, Urge Peaceful Solutions

Southern Nigerian traditional rulers offer condolences to the families of those lost in the Uromi violence, call for thorough investigation, and emphasize the need for peace and unity across the nation.

The Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) has extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the recent violence in Uromi. The council strongly condemned the attack that led to the deaths of several hunters and urged for peace and stability to return to the affected region.

In a statement released by His Eminence, The Eze Aro, Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, the SNTRC’s Publicity Secretary, the group expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of life. The statement also acknowledged the broader security challenges that have plagued the nation, highlighting the widespread violence and insecurity that have affected many areas.

The council emphasized that these violent acts do not represent the values of the Fulani and Hausa communities, who are peaceful, law-abiding citizens. They pointed out that thousands of lives have been lost across Nigeria due to attacks blamed on rogue Fulani herdsmen, stressing that all lives, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds, are valuable.

While mourning the loss of life in Uromi, the traditional rulers also recognized the devastating impact of farmer-herder conflicts, which have caused displacement and suffering across Nigeria. They called on the government and security agencies to address the root causes of these conflicts and work toward a more sustainable solution to ensure peace and security for all citizens.

The statement urged the security forces and government to handle the investigation of the Uromi incident with caution and impartiality. It called for a thorough and fair probe, with those responsible for the violence being brought to justice. The SNTRC reiterated its dedication to fostering unity, peace, and understanding among the diverse communities in Nigeria.

The monarchs concluded their statement with a plea for all stakeholders to collaborate toward creating a safer, more peaceful nation. They expressed their hope that the affected families would find strength and that the nation would overcome its challenges.

“May God bless Nigeria and grant peace to the families of those affected by this tragic event,” the statement concluded.
