TY Danjuma Urges Nigerians to Protect Themselves Amid Worsening Insecurity

Retired General TY Danjuma says Nigerians should be ready to defend their lives and communities, as the government can’t do it alone.

Retired Defence Minister and former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma, has again called on Nigerians to take responsibility for their safety in the face of ongoing violence across the country.

Speaking during a public event in Takum, Taraba State, Danjuma stressed that the increasing attacks in Plateau and Benue States show that his earlier warnings about self-defence remain relevant.

He recalled that five years ago, he urged citizens to protect themselves when it became clear that security agencies could not respond effectively to the growing threat of criminal groups.

According to him, the alarming rise in killings and attacks across communities proves that relying solely on government protection is no longer enough. He stated that the safety of lives and property now demands a collective effort from the people.

Danjuma emphasized that individuals must take the initiative to defend their homes and communities before the situation worsens further. He warned that without urgent action from the public, violent groups could take over more parts of the country.

His comments reflect growing frustration over repeated attacks by bandits and terrorists, which have left many communities devastated and citizens feeling abandoned.
