The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has marked the 2025 International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace by calling on Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence. The organization reaffirmed its dedication to fostering national cooperation and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
Peter Ohagwa, Country President of UN-POLAC, highlighted the importance of the day in promoting a culture of peace and resolving conflicts. In a country grappling with ethnic crises, religious divides, gender inequality, social discrimination, poverty, and insecurity, Ohagwa stressed that multilateralism and diplomacy could strengthen cultural ties and address the root causes of these issues.
He further emphasized the need for sustainable development, intergroup dialogue, and the strengthening of institutions to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding. Ohagwa called for collective efforts from governments, religious organizations, traditional leaders, civil society groups, and individuals to advance multilateralism and diplomacy for peace. He stated, “Together, we can overcome national challenges, encourage sustainable growth, build trust, and promote a culture of non-violence.”
The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, observed annually on April 24, serves as a reminder of the power of cooperative efforts in achieving peace and resolving conflicts.
