Wave of High-Profile Defections to APC Sparks Celebration Among Party Leaders

Top figures from rival parties join APC across multiple states. Party’s women leader hails momentum as a vote of confidence.

The National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mary Alile, has expressed strong enthusiasm over the surge of new members joining the party from other political groups. In a statement issued from Abuja, she described the trend as a clear sign of growing confidence in the APC’s direction and leadership.

Dr. Alile congratulated APC members and supporters nationwide, praising their commitment as the party welcomes a historic number of new entrants. She pointed to Delta State as a major turning point, highlighting the defection of key political players, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the full State Executive Council, and several top stakeholders.

She also cited similar movements in Abia State, where over 500 individuals from parties like the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Young People’s Party (YPP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) switched to the APC in Bende Federal Constituency.

In Edo State, four lawmakers from the PDP and LP have moved to the APC, strengthening the party’s voice in the state legislature. Other states witnessing major shifts include Kogi, where former PDP governorship hopeful Joseph Ameh Erico and a large number of followers joined the APC in Olamaboro LGA. In Niger, about 200 PDP members—including former House of Reps member Hon. Abdullahi Mohammed Ricco—also joined the APC in Munya LGA.

Dr. Alile added that influential PDP figures like Alhaji Sahabi Bojo-Bodinga in Sokoto and Hajiya Madina Shehu in Zamfara have brought their support bases to the APC, boosting the party’s presence in those regions. In Ondo State, hundreds of members from the PDP and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) have also crossed over ahead of the upcoming elections.

She credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, stating that his developmental approach continues to draw support from across the political spectrum. She also acknowledged the strategic role of the APC National Chairman and National Working Committee in driving unity and inclusion within the party.

Dr. Alile concluded by commending the efforts of women at the grassroots, whose involvement and advocacy have helped expand the party’s reach. She emphasized the need to keep empowering women as part of the APC’s strategy for sustained national growth.
