Leaders, Loved Ones Mourn Chief Adindu Ezeamu in Anambra

Prominent Nigerians pay heartfelt tribute as Chief Adindu Ezeamu is laid to rest in Ekwulobia after his sudden death in the Maldives.

Ekwulobia, Anambra State, witnessed a solemn gathering on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as dignitaries and locals came together to honour the life and legacy of Chief Adindu Alexander Ezeamu. The 55-year-old, who passed away unexpectedly while on vacation in the Maldives, was buried in his hometown amid an outpouring of emotion and tributes.

Ezeamu, son-in-law of former Senator Joy Emodi, was celebrated not just as a family man but as a well-respected figure known for his generosity and achievements. The funeral drew notable personalities from across political and community lines. Among them was former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who described the death as shocking and recalled Ezeamu’s deep commitment to uplifting others.

Chief Innocent Okey Muojekwu, leader of the Ekwulobia Traditional Council of Chiefs, called Ezeamu a community pillar, expressing the pain and collective grief that swept through Ekwulobia following the tragic news. Chief Ifeanyi Ogwata, the Owelle of Ekwulobia, remembered him as Dikenemelora, a man who built roads, empowered the needy, and left behind a record of achievements far beyond his years.

Herbert Amechi Ezeokoye, who led the burial committee, credited the event’s success to Ezeamu’s lasting impact in Umuchiana village. He shared the community’s belief that his legacy would live on through his son.

From his days at Marist Brothers College to his later roles in public service, Ezeamu remained a generous and admired figure. The Abuja Chapter of the Old Boys Association, represented by Chukwuemeka Philip, pledged continued support to his family in memory of his kindness.

An emotional tribute came from Senator Joy Emodi, who described him as a dependable problem-solver and loyal ally. She called him “a man with a heart of gold” whose ability to find solutions earned him the nickname “Mr Fix-it.”

The burial Mass held at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Ekwulobia, included a moving sermon from Reverend Father Alphonsus Ezeoke, who encouraged mourners to live impactful lives like Ezeamu’s.

Those present included former APC gubernatorial aspirant Valentine Ozigbo, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Dr Kene Nweke, Chief Dr Kene Ekwueme, and Dr Kevin Ayogu. Ezeamu’s legacy as a construction magnate, former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano, and member of national boards such as the University of Port Harcourt and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council was noted as one marked by service, leadership, and generosity.
