The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is pushing for a strategic partnership with the National Population Commission (NPC) to improve service delivery and worker safety nationwide. During a recent meeting at the NPC headquarters in Abuja, NSITF Managing Director Olawaseun Faleye highlighted several key areas of collaboration. These included sharing demographic data, aligning social security efforts for both permanent and temporary NPC staff, and providing training for workplace risk assessments and health and safety.
Faleye emphasised that this partnership would benefit both agencies and contribute to the broader development of the nation. He also pointed out the importance of educating the public on NSITF’s mandate. To promote awareness, the agency has already engaged with other organisations, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
NSITF operates in all 36 states and has 62 branches across 13 regions, carrying out public awareness campaigns. Faleye took the opportunity to extend condolences to the NPC for the recent loss of two staff members during a census mapping exercise. He also underscored the benefits of the NSITF’s Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), which provides compensation for workplace injuries, diseases, disabilities, and fatalities. In the event of a worker’s death, their dependents would receive 90% of their monthly salary and support for their children’s education through to university level.
Dr. Ojogan Osifo, the Director-General of NPC, welcomed the NSITF’s proposal, commending Faleye for his leadership and vision. He acknowledged the potential for enhanced collaboration, particularly in improving demographic projections and data-driven policymaking. Both agencies aim to improve the quality and relevance of data used in national planning, ultimately benefiting Nigerians.
This meeting is part of NSITF’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness about worker safety and the importance of enrolling in the Employees’ Compensation Scheme.
