The Labour Party has called for a thorough investigation, arrests, and prosecution of those responsible for the brutal killings in Benue State. The party also urged deploying additional security forces to protect vulnerable communities, particularly in the North Central region. Senator Nenadi Usman, the Acting National Chairman, issued these demands in a statement from Abuja on Monday.
She emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian aid, including food, shelter, medical care, and trauma support for the victims. The statement condemned the massacre of over 100 people, including displaced persons, women, children, and security personnel, as well as the widespread destruction of property. Senator Usman described the victims as innocent lives, not mere statistics, highlighting the tragedy of children, mothers, and fathers lost to the violence.
She called the attacks a stark reminder of the government’s failure to protect its citizens, pointing to the burning of homes, ambushes on security forces, and the vulnerability of displaced persons.
